In his long career as a professional footballer, Dennis Diekmeier has left his mark, particularly in Hamburg, Nuremberg and Sandhausen. He will end his career in the summer.
Former Bundesliga player Dennis Diekmeier will draw a line under his career as a professional footballer this summer. The decision of the long-time player of Hamburger SV and 1. FC Nürnberg was announced by third division club SV Sandhausen on Monday evening. The 34-year-old is under contract there until June 30th.
“When I came to SV Sandhausen over five years ago, I thought, I have to be honest, it was just a short adventure. I wanted to show myself after six months without a club and then move on,” said Diekmeier President Jürgen Machmeier would like to be involved in another role in the club. “I assume that we will find a solution together,” said Machmeier.
Diekmeier won the U19 European Championship with Germany in 2009. The full-back made headlines in the 2019/20 season when he scored his first goal in his 294th game as a professional. No other player in Germany needed more attempts. In the men’s division, Diekmeier had only previously scored a goal in a regional league game for the HSV second team in 2010.
