Title: Denny Hamlin Shuts out the Boos with Bristol Victory

Date: September 17, 2023

Denny Hamlin emerged victorious at the Bass Pro Shops Night Race in Bristol Motor Speedway, but the cheers from the crowd were replaced with a chorus of boos. Hamlin, undeterred by the negativity, defiantly proclaimed, “I beat your favorite driver!” in response to the dissatisfied fans.

Leading for 139 laps, Hamlin showcased his skills and held off fierce competitors Kyle Larson and Christopher Bell in the final stage of the race. This win marks Hamlin’s third victory of the season and his first since July. Interestingly, this is not the first time the fans have expressed their displeasure towards Hamlin, as he faced similar boos after his last win at Pocono Raceway. However, the criticism has only fueled the 42-year-old driver’s confidence.

Hamlin, reflecting on the crowd’s reaction, commented, “Everybody likes a winner, right? It’s our year. I just feel like we’ve got it all put together. We’ve got the speed every single type of racetrack. Nothing to stop us at this point.”

The victory at Bristol did not impact Hamlin’s position in the Round of 12, as he had already secured his spot based on points accumulated during the race. The focus was largely on the playoff drivers, with defending champion Joey Logano being eliminated after wrecking out of the race. Former Cup Series champion Kevin Harvick also failed to gather enough points to advance.

Longshots Michael McDowell and Ricky Stenhouse Jr., both in need of wins, pushed hard throughout the race. McDowell held strong, finishing in the Top Five for most of the race and ultimately placing sixth. Disappointed but proud, McDowell stated, “Tonight it wasn’t enough. We were in a must-win situation. Not quite enough to run with those top two or three guys, but pretty good.”

Martin Truex Jr., the regular-season champion and No. 2 seed, narrowly made it to the next round despite finishing 19th. Bubba Wallace sealed the 12th and final spot in the next round with a solid 14th place finish.

Wallace, co-owned by Hamlin at 23XI Racing, faced a similar reaction from the crowd during his interview with NBC Sports. Unfazed by the booing, Wallace embraced it, saying, “Good, I love that [expletive] right there. Like Coco Gauff said, all they’re doing is adding fuel to the fire. I love it.”

As Hamlin and Wallace celebrate their successes, the boos from the crowd only serve to intensify their determination and drive. These drivers are proving that no amount of negativity can dampen their spirits or hinder their quest for victory.
