British Rock Legend Denny Laine Dies at 79

Denny Laine, the co-founder of iconic rock bands The Moody Blues and Paul McCartney’s Wings, has passed away at the age of 79. His wife, Elizabeth Hines, shared the sad news on his Facebook page, revealing that Laine died peacefully at his home on Tuesday morning following health setbacks from interstitial lung disease.

Hines recounted being at his bedside, holding his hand and playing his favorite Christmas songs for him. She expressed hope that he would overcome his health setbacks and return home, but sadly his lung disease proved to be unpredictable and aggressive, ultimately taking his life.

Laine helped form The Moody Blues in 1964, and he was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame as a member in 2018. In 1971, he joined Paul and Linda McCartney to form Wings, and continued to make music in a solo career after leaving the band.

In a heartfelt Instagram post, Paul McCartney expressed his sadness at the loss of his ex-bandmate, reminiscing about the fond memories of their time together. He praised Laine as an outstanding vocalist and guitar player, closing the post with, “Peace and love Denny. It was a pleasure to know you. We are all going to miss you.”

Laine’s wife remembered him as “an amazingly wonderful person, so loving and sweet,” and thanked his fans, surgeons, doctors, and nurses for their support. She expressed her gratitude for the honor and privilege of caring for him during his illness and vulnerability.

Denny Laine leaves behind a legacy of timeless music and unforgettable contributions to the rock and roll genre. He will be dearly missed by his fans and the music industry as a whole.
