Status of local sports facilities in Deokyang-gu

Deokyang-gu, Goyang Special City (Chief Han Chan-hee) operates the ‘Neighborhood Sports Facility Safety Guard,’ a community sports facility maintenance volunteer group, to keep outdoor sports equipment clean and safe. The plan is to prevent safety accidents by constantly monitoring neighborhood sports facilities and promote the use of sports facilities by installing new sports facilities and holding district office long-term sports competitions.

Recruiting ‘neighborhood sports facility safety guards’ for local residents… Activities start in March

Deokyang-gu, Goyang-si is pushing for the launch of the ‘Neighborhood Sports Facility Safety Guardian’, where nearby residents can participate as volunteers to manage neighborhood sports facilities on a regular basis.

In Deogyang-gu, there are 274 pieces of exercise equipment (excluding rivers and parks) located in 33 locations in 14 buildings, including hiking trails, community centers, and playgrounds. Exercise equipment that is mainly installed outdoors is popular because it allows you to do a variety of exercises while breathing in clean air, but as it is greatly affected by the weather, it often gets dirty, causing many complaints about inconvenience in using it.

In fact, looking at the details of last year’s repairs, most of them were minor repair requests rather than major defects such as rust removal, painting, cleaning, and replacement of parts. However, since exercise equipment is spread out all over the place, there are limits to managing it with district office personnel. The district plans to improve these chronic problems by operating a neighborhood sports facility maintenance volunteer group made up of voluntary and active residents who frequently use neighborhood sports facilities.

The district plans to complete the final selection of volunteer groups by holding recommendations for volunteer groups by next month with on-site civil service officers from 14 jurisdictions and receiving volunteer recommendations from each location. In principle, the person in charge of each building recommends one person from each location (33 locations) when recommending and selecting volunteer groups. The selected volunteer group will begin field inspections in earnest in March after completing their main duties and safety training.

Prevent safety accidents through simple cleaning and reporting of malfunctions… Intensive management of 3 buildings including Goyang-dong

The main duties of the volunteer group include removing dirt from exercise equipment, removing weeds from the floor, and reporting breakdowns. Volunteers assigned to each location use outdoor exercise facilities and conduct regular on-site inspections, including facility safety, damaged or worn-out facilities, signs on how to use exercise equipment damaged, and peeling paint. Volunteers do simple cleaning and weeding around exercise equipment.

Parts that require professional repairs will be delivered to the district office and repairs will be carried out immediately after detailed diagnosis by a professional company. If significant defects or risk factors are discovered, use will be restricted or demolished. The district conducts safety inspections in the first and second half of the year to thoroughly check the safety of equipment and prevent safety accidents.

In particular, Goyang-dong (4 locations), Gwansan-dong (7 locations), and Changneung-dong (5 locations), which have many sports facilities, are classified as special management targets and district officials accompany them for intensive management.

The district plans to install a ‘neighborhood sports facility safety guard cleaning tool box’ at each location, equipped with gloves, detergent, towels, and a hoe, so that volunteers do not have to worry about having to bring the necessary tools every time.

Meanwhile, if a volunteer submits a volunteer activity certification application to the district, the volunteer hours can be registered and comprehensive volunteer insurance will be applied. Volunteers who have volunteered for more than a certain number of hours are given free parking (4 hours) in some parking areas.

Last year, a new sports facility was installed in Haengju-dong… District Office Janggi Sports Festival continues this year as well

Deogyang-gu is working to revitalize sports for daily life by installing new sports facilities and supporting the district office long-term sports competition.

Last year, three outdoor exercise equipment were installed at 500-18 Haengju Oe-dong near Goyang Hangang Park, reflecting suggestions from local residents. In the area where all 16 residents of Haengju-dong within a 220m radius reside, more than half (54.82%) are aged 60 or older, and the facility has been receiving a positive response from village residents since its installation.

In addition, the district is expanding the base for daily sports by holding the Deogyang-gu Office Janggi Sports Festival for each sport every year. Last year, four Deogyang-gu Office Janggi competitions, including soccer, gateball, tennis, and silver soccer, were held at Byeolmuri Stadium and Seongsa City Tennis Stadium, and this year, starting with the soccer competition in May, local residents are planning to display their honed skills. .

Chan-hee Han, head of Deokyang-gu District, said, “Interest in recreational sports is increasing, and the number of citizens using neighborhood sports facilities is steadily increasing.” He added, “We are creating a safe sports environment so that citizens can comfortably use neighborhood sports facilities, and conducting continuous inspection and maintenance.” “I will work hard to do this,” he said.
