“We don’t like Depardieu, he’s a big pig.” These are the words written in capital letters and in black on a wall of the house of the Belgian actor Benoît Poelvoorde, in Namur in Belgium, according to what the ‘Le Figaro’ website reports, citing the Belgian press agency. Words that appeared yesterday and would have been quickly deleted. Poelvoorde, in addition to having worked several times alongside Gerard Depardieu, is one of the signatories of the letter in support of the French actor, published in the columns of ‘Le Figaro’ last December 25th.
In the letter – signed among others by the director Bertrand Blier and the actresses Nathalie Baye, Emmanuelle Seigner and Carole Bouquet – an invitation is made “not to erase” Depardieu, accused of rape and sexual violence by some women and in recent days at the center of a scandal for the documentary ‘Complément d’investigation’ broadcast by France 2.
In the doc, the actor, during a trip to North Korea, indulges in misogynistic comments and also makes sexual allusions towards a little girl on a horse. So far there has been no statement from Depardieu, but according to what ‘Le Figaro’ reports, the actor’s lawyers spoke of an “attack on the presumption of innocence” and declared that Depardieu “is not someone who does evil, who humiliates.”
