Deportivo Cali once again disappointed in the Liga BetPlay II-2024. This Monday, July 29, on matchday 3, they lost 2-1 in their visit to Fortaleza CEIF. The sugar team does not hide the tension that exists within the squad, and with many mistakes, they struggled during the match at the Enrique Olaya Herrera stadium in Bogotá.
Fortaleza played with more calmness, which showed in their football, taking advantage of the mistakes and spaces left by the opponent. This was highlighted when, just in the 11th minute, the first goal of the match arrived: a great pass from Nicolás Rodríguez led to a good finish from Sebastián Navarro, who scored the 1-0.
The home team could have increased their lead, but the crossbar saved Cali after a serious error by José Caldera in the buildup. In his debut, Uruguayan goalkeeper Gastón Guruceaga struggled due to the instability of his defense.
In the second half, at 57’, another lapse in concentration from Cali during a corner kick and a header at the near post by Daniel Rivera resulted in the goal for 2-0, which almost sealed the fate of the green and white team.
At 89, a penalty provided a sigh of relief for Deportivo Cali. Fredy Montero converted and scored the 2-1 goal, but there was not enough time for a miracle.
A sugary defeat that leaves bitterness in the mouths of the fans.
