Deportivo Pereira and Independiente Medellín faced off in matchday 2 of the Liga BetPlay 2024-II, and at the Hernán Ramírez Villegas stadium, both had an intense match, which ultimately ended in a 1-1 draw.
The match was so lively that Medellín, who started imposing conditions, managed to open the scoring through Mender García, who took advantage of an assist from Jhon Vásquez to shoot with his right foot in front of goalkeeper Salvador Ichazo.
The powerful side managed to secure their defense and held on to the slight lead, although Pereira’s intensity was significant, making the equalizer seem close.
Pereira never gave up and before the end of the first half, managed to equalize 1-1 with a goal from the scorer Fernando Uribe, who at the 42nd minute marked his return from retirement and made it clear that his nose for goals in the box remains intact.
The second half promised more and it was indeed the case, as both teams had their dangerous chances, though it was Pereira that could attempt to reach the goal due to constant pressure.
In fact, they had a chance to take the lead after a foul in the box on Fernando Uribe, but VAR decided it was not a penalty for Pereira, so the match continued at one goal.
Medellín had a slight awakening and with Francisco Chaverra managed some shots, but it was not enough to regain the lead on the scoreboard.
The match remained tied and there began to be a lot of fouls, leading to little continuity for both clubs, who aspired to surprise through crosses and set pieces.
With 13 minutes remaining, perhaps one of the clearest chances of the second half appeared, after Deportivo Pereira managed a clear goal opportunity from a corner kick through José Moya, who shot with his head, but in the way, Francisco Chaverra intervened, and while trying to clear the ball, nearly scored an own goal, but the post saved him.
Pereira continued to seek victory while Medellín only held on to the result they were achieving as visitors, thus the match definitively leaned towards a draw.
In the end, the match finished 1-1, a result that left Pereira with four points and Medellín with two after two matches played.
