Three days after storm Patricia, Brittany is again on alert. The department of Ille-et-Vilaine is placed this Saturday on orange waves-submersion vigilance by Meteo France, due to expected strong winds from the Antoni Depression. Gusts of 90 to 100 km / h are expected, especially on the Channel coasts and 70 to 80 km / h in the interior of the coastal departments. Météo France warns that Antoni, who will cross the south of England this Saturday afternoon, “will cause a gale and rain in the north of the country” during the weekend.

Given the high tidal coefficients (coefficient 97 for the high tide from Saturday night to Sunday), unusual for the season, the gusts could generate sea swells and flooding in low or vulnerable areas of the coast during high seas. The maximum waves are expected in the evening.

Be careful near the coast

As a result of this orange alert for waves-submersion, Météo France advises the inhabitants concerned to be particularly careful. They are thus asked to move away from the coast and not to take to the open sea, as the sea water can reach the roads, houses and car parks located on the coast.

Boats that are not properly moored can be swept away. Coastal infrastructure, such as dykes, signposts or jetties are also likely to be damaged. The waves can also carry with them objects or pebbles, which can become projectiles liable to injure people, damage property or hinder traffic by the sea.

Regarding the other departments on the Channel coast, from northern Finistère to Pas-de-Calais, the Antoni depression will affect them to a lesser extent. They are placed in yellow level wave-submersion vigilance.
