In a press release issued yesterday by the Director of the Chennai Meteorological Research Centre, P. Senthamaraik Kannan said: The low pressure area that existed in the South Bengal Sea is currently a deep low pressure area in the South West Bay of Bengal and its adjoining areas.

It will move northwestward and may strengthen as a low pressure area over southwest Bay of Bengal during next 48 hours. After that it will move in west and south-west direction and may move towards Kumari Sea area through Sri Lanka.

Due to this, moderate rain with thunder and lightning may occur at one or two places in Tamilnadu, Puducherry and Karaikal on 22nd, 23rd and 24th.

Chennai and its suburbs will experience partly cloudy skies during the next 48 hours. Light rain may occur at a few places. This is stated in the press release.
