The prevailing low pressure area in the Bay of Bengal is likely to intensify into a storm today. Due to that there is a possibility of heavy rain in Tamil Nadu for the first 3 days tomorrow.

In this connection, the Director of the Chennai Meteorological Center Na. Puviarasan said in a press release issued yesterday:

The deep depression in the southeastern Bay of Bengal moves west and northwest into a depression. It is likely to intensify into a storm on the 3rd (today) and move to the central Bay of Bengal. It will move further in a north-westerly direction and approach the northern Andhra-southern Odisha coast on the morning of the 4th.

Thundershowers will develop at several places in Madurai, Virudhunagar and Tirunelveli districts on the 4th due to the prevailing low pressure zone in the Bay of Bengal. Thundershowers will develop at several places in the coastal districts and in Pondicherry and Karaikal.

On the 5th, there will be thundershowers at one or two places in the Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Salem, Dharmapuri, Erode, Theni, Madurai, Sivagangai and Virudhunagar districts. Showers or thundershowers at a few places in Pondicherry and Karaikal.

On the 6th, there will be thundershowers at one or two places in the Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Namakkal, Tiruppur, Theni and Dindigul districts. Light rain is also expected.
