After being the victim of a head trauma consecutive to a car accidentjournalist and novelist Françoise-Marie Santucci became anosmique. In other words, she no longer perceives any odor. As a former lover of scents, this disorder is a real handicap for her: “my nose still smells, my brain always deciphers, but the link made between the two is not terrible, ”she explains.

Deprived of a “relational compass”

Today, Françoise-Marie Santucci “compensates” this disability with his own memories of the smells of food, the nature. In his book In search of lost smells, she talks about her daily life: “we work a lot by smell,” she says. Moreover, when we say of someone “this person, hey, I feel good”, it’s not for nothing. So we also work with our flair, with our smell. And not having any more at all, it’s as if we were deprived of a relational compass”.

Anosmia is a disorder that denotes the complete loss of smell in an individual and impairs the olfactory nerve. This disability may manifest temporarily or may permanently affect one or both nostrils. Anosmia can be a disease which develops during the normal aging of a person but can also occur when the individual is the victim of a cranial trauma, a sinusitisa deviated nasal septum, to name a few.
