Deputy Minister of Defense of Russia Timur Ivanov was detained on suspicion of receiving a bribe on an especially large scale (Part 6 of Article 290 of the Criminal Code).
As Day.Az reports, the Investigative Committee reported this. The maximum term under the article is up to 15 years in prison.
The investigation believes that Ivanov entered into a criminal conspiracy with third parties; the case is related to contracting and subcontracting work for the needs of the Ministry of Defense.
“Russian President Vladimir Putin was informed about the detention of Deputy Defense Minister Timur Ivanov. Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu was also informed in advance,” presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters.
Ivanov worked at enterprises of the fuel and energy complex in 1999-2012, then became deputy head of the government of the Moscow region, and from 2013 to 2016 he headed Oboronstroy, the largest construction holding of the Ministry of Defense.
He became deputy defense minister in 2016. Ivanov is an active state adviser of the 1st class (2019), Hero of the LPR (2022) and Honored Builder of Russia.
Under Ivanov’s leadership, the main temple of the Russian Armed Forces and the nearby museum complex were built.
In 2019, Ivanov topped the Forbes ranking of the richest security officials in Russia. According to the magazine for 2018, Ivanov’s family income amounted to 136.7 million rubles, his own income was 13.6 million.
