SAO PAULO (Reuters) – Paraná’s 2022/23 soybean crop was estimated this Thursday at a record 22.37 million tons, pointed out the Department of Rural Economy (Deral), raising the projection by 200,000 tons in comparison with the forecast released last month.

With the soybean harvest practically over, Deral points to an increase of 83% compared to last season, when the drought affected the crops in the second largest producer of the oilseed in Brazil.

The body of the Secretariat of Agriculture of Paraná reduced the forecast for the second corn crop to 14.4 million tons, versus 14.7 million previously, after a crop marked by slower planting.

If the projection is confirmed, the harvest would still grow 8% year-on-year, despite a 9% reduction in planted area, driven by better yields.

Wheat, whose planting is starting, had an estimated harvest of 4.48 million tons, practically stable compared to the previous forecast.

If this projection is confirmed, there would be an increase of 32% compared to last season, considering an increase in the planted area of 13% compared to last year, to 1.36 million hectares.

Deral maintained the projection of area planted with wheat in comparison with the previous survey.
