At the meeting of State Secretary Anthony Blinken with the heads of foreign affairs of Azerbaijan and Armenia held in Washington in early May, some proposals were put forward to the parties to resolve the most controversial issues, such as the mutual withdrawal of border forces, the dispute resolution mechanism in the future peace agreement, and the rights and security of ethnic Armenians in Nagorno-Karabakh.

On May 23, Derek Hogan, Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary, Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs US Department of State, Congresswoman Madeleine told the House Foreign Affairs Committee on May 23. Dean (congresswoman Madeleine Dean) said in response to a question.

The congressman said that yesterday he met the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan Elnur Mammadov and discussed the situation in the conflict region with him. He also asked about measures to “lift the blockade” of the Lachin Corridor, to which Hogan said that Secretary of State Blinken insisted on opening the Lachin Corridor for commercial and private transportation in a meeting with foreign ministers.

“We made a number of proposals that could allow the parties to resolve their differences. On June 1, they will continue discussions in Chisinau with the participation of the French president, the German chancellor and the president of the Council of the European Union. We are coordinating our steps with the European Union, and in Chisinau the focus will be on how to finish the job, but it’s a long way,” Hogan said.
