DERYCK WHIBLEY from SUM 41 “buries” the rumors once and for all.

While fans will have to wait until tomorrow, Wednesday, August 28, to finally find out what the big announcement from LINKIN PARK is, one thing we can state with certainty is: DERYCK WHIBLEY from SUM 41 is not going to join the nu-metal legends. After a simple, but somewhat unfortunate, timing coincidence on social media led to rampant speculation among fans, the Canadian musician felt it necessary to set the record straight.

With the countdown clock for LINKIN PARK sending the internet into a frenzy over whether or not they will return with a new vocalist, and SUM 41 also turning to Twitter to announce that DERYCK WHIBLEY has a “big announcement” scheduled for tomorrow, rock-loving conspiracy theorists began to wonder if the two announcements were linked, with rumors of Whibley about to grab the microphone for LINKIN PARK gaining traction throughout today.

In a new post dated today, August 27, the musician clarifies that tomorrow’s announcement is related to a tour and the release of a book. Everything else — including the possibility of joining the newly reunited Oasis — is just rumor.

I feel the need to dispel some rumors,” he wrote. “It has been brought to my attention that many people think I might be joining a band that is reuniting. But I just want to say, despite popular belief… I am not joining Oasis, nor Linkin Park. Or any other band.” Remember, SUM 41, who performed in Portugal last July, are doing their farewell tour.
