The Greek gas operator DESFA and “Bulgartransgaz” will study the interest and possibilities for the development of the hydrogen market. The companies announce the start of a joint study in both countries and invite prospective producers, users, traders or suppliers to express their non-binding interest in the use of hydrogen in connection with the projects they are developing. Participants can submit their predictions to both operators no later than November 30, 2024.

The call aims to assess the interest of market participants in the potential use of hydrogen in the future energy mix. The results will determine the expected needs for hydrogen transfer capacity, possible production locations in the two countries, as well as delivery points to end users.

The data obtained within the framework of the non-binding study will support the timely planning and construction of the necessary infrastructure for the transfer of hydrogen in and through Greece and Bulgaria.

DESFA and Bulgartransgaz already have two hydrogen projects included in the first list of common and mutual interest of the European Commission.
