DECRYPTION – Except for the Mediterranean region which is still experiencing significant drought, experts say they are optimistic.

The exceptional precipitation of the last month is not reflected in the latest groundwater report as of November 1 and released Thursday by the Bureau of Geological and Mining Research (BRGM). We must wait until the water infiltrates into the subsoil and is no longer captured by the vegetation, which remained active late thanks to the mild temperatures this fall.

For this reason, “65% of observation points are below monthly normals and 18% are at very low levels as of November 1”, explained Violaine Bault, hydrogeologist at BRGM during the presentation of the last monthly report for 2023 – there will be none in December. And to add: “There was no noticeable impact from rain infiltration.” However, the situation is overall more favorable than that observed in October 2022, where 75% of measurements were below normal.
