For the moment, it still does not go up, on the contrary even. The number of people registered with Pôle emploi, all categories combined, fell by 0.4% in the first quarter of 2023 (-19,000), according to data from the Ministry of Labor published on Wednesday. A “new decline” welcomed by the Minister of Labour, Olivier Dussopt, while a bill (creation of France travail, vocational school) is planned by the summer to allow the government to reach full employment at the end of the five-year term. That is an unemployment rate of 5% of the active population in 2027, against 7.2% in the last quarter of last year.

In detail, in the first quarter the number of registrants without any activity (category A) in France (excluding Mayotte) fell by 1.2% (-35,600) compared to the previous quarter, to 3.016 million people. Over one year, the rate of decline still reached 5.8%. The number of people exercising a short reduced activity (category B) is on the other hand slightly increased, by 0.3%. Ditto, the ranks of people in long reduced activity (category C) have expanded by 0.9%.
