Despite the energy crisis and inflation, the municipalities, departments and regions richer than expected?

It is a highly sensitive note which circulates these days in the corridors of the ministries and of which Le Parisien-Aujourd’hui in France has been informed. It focuses on “the financial health of local authorities”, in mid-2022 and for 2023. Resulting from the work of State services on local authorities, it examines the finances of municipalities, departments and regions. However, the diagnosis that it draws up, on the eve of the budgetary debate in parliament, goes against the alarmist statements of associations of local elected officials.
