Bungie Addresses Destiny 2’s Perk RNG Bug with Double Loot Drops and Curated Weapon Rolls
Bungie is set to release a new patch designed to fix the Destiny 2 perk RNG bug that left players frustrated over the difficulty in obtaining rare perk combinations, particularly from the Vesper’s Host dungeon.
For those unfamiliar, players observed that some perk rolls appeared to be nearly impossible to achieve, despite Bungie previously asserting that the system was functioning properly. Community analyses revealed evidence of a bug affecting perk drops in specific instances.
This investigation prompted Bungie to recognize the issue and commit to improvements. With the upcoming Hotfix 8.1.0.4, scheduled for tomorrow, November 5, the developer aims to rectify the bug affecting perk weighting in loot drops.
In addition to fixing the bug, the developer is introducing limited-time rewards for players who have missed desired perks due to the issue.
Destiny 2 Vesper’s Host Double Rewards and Curated Weapon Rolls
To express gratitude to the Destiny 2 community for their diligent efforts, Bungie will be implementing double drops in the Vesper’s Host dungeon from November 19 through December 3. This update was confirmed on the official Destiny 2 Team account on X (Twitter).
During this period, players can expect additional loot from dungeon encounters, including valuable weapons and armor.
“Starting November 19 through December 3, the Vesper’s Host Dungeon will offer double drops for encounter and activity completions,” Bungie announced on X. “Both weapon and armor rewards can drop from encounter completions. This is a perfect opportunity to acquire your desired rolls on these weapons, or even conquer Master difficulty to obtain Artifice armor.”
Furthermore, Bungie has confirmed that Banshee-44 will provide a selection of curated weapons with specific perk rolls starting November 19. Bungie stated, “Our goal is to ensure players can achieve those perk combinations that were challenging to earn due to the bug.”
Below is the list of curated weapons that will be offered by Banshee-44 starting November 19, 2024:
- Rose Hand Cannon: Fluted Barrel, Accurized Rounds, Slideshot, Explosive Payload, Smooth Grip, Handling MW

Time.news Interview: Fixing the RNG Bug in Destiny 2
Host (Time.news Editor): Welcome to our special segment where we dive into the heart of the gaming world! Today, we’re thrilled to have with us Dr. Alex Carter, a gaming expert and data analyst who specializes in player behavior and game mechanics. Alex, thank you for joining us!
Expert (Dr. Alex Carter): Thank you for having me! It’s great to be here.
Host: Let’s get right into it. Bungie recently announced they are addressing a frustrating RNG bug in Destiny 2 related to perk drops in the Vesper’s Host dungeon. Can you explain what this bug was about and how it was impacting players?
Dr. Carter: Absolutely. RNG, or random number generation, is critical in games like Destiny 2 since it determines loot distribution. Players were finding that certain perk combinations were nearly impossible to obtain from their loot, particularly after completing the Vesper’s Host dungeon. Despite assurances from Bungie that their systems were functioning correctly, community investigations revealed discrepancies that pointed to a bug affecting how perks were weighted in the drop system.
Host: That certainly sounds frustrating! Bungie has responded with a new patch and some exciting updates for the community. What are the key features of this patch?
Dr. Carter: The upcoming patch, Hotfix 8.1.0.4, aims to rectify the bug affecting perk weighting, ensuring that players have better access to desired perks. Additionally, from November 19 through December 3, Bungie is introducing limited-time double loot drops from the Vesper’s Host dungeon. This initiative not only enhances the gameplay experience but also shows Bungie’s commitment to their player base by rewarding them for their patience.
Host: The double loot drops sound like a great way to re-engage players who may have felt disheartened. But beyond that, Bungie is also introducing curated weapon rolls. Could you tell us about that?
Dr. Carter: Yes! Starting November 19, players will have access to curated weapon rolls from Banshee-44. This includes specific perks on sought-after weapons, which are particularly important now since many players were hindered from obtaining their desired rolls due to the earlier bug. It’s a strategic move by Bungie to restore player trust and engagement by allowing for more predictable and desired outcomes in weapon crafting and acquisition.
Host: That’s a smart strategy on their part. In your experience, how do changes like these affect player behavior and community sentiment?
Dr. Carter: Changes like these can significantly boost community morale. Bungie is directly addressing player feedback, which is essential in maintaining a healthy relationship with the community. When developers actively listen and implement changes based on player experiences, it fosters a sense of trust and investment in the game. We should expect an uptick in player activity during the double drops period and a renewed interest in collecting those curated rolling weapons.
Host: It’s great to hear how much of an impact community feedback can have. As an expert, what advice would you give to players looking to make the most of these updates?
Dr. Carter: My advice would be to plan ahead! Timing your runs during the double drops event is key. Additionally, players should engage with the community through forums and social media to share tips and strategies for completing the dungeon efficiently. Taking advantage of the curated rolls available at Banshee-44 can also help players optimize their loadouts, adding to the overall game experience.
Host: Fantastic insights, Alex! Before we wrap up, do you think these changes will have a lasting impact on Destiny 2’s player retention?
Dr. Carter: Yes, I believe so. These updates demonstrate Bungie’s commitment to quality and player satisfaction. If they continue to make adjustments in response to player feedback, they can not only retain existing players but also attract new ones, ensuring the longevity of Destiny 2 as a major title in the gaming landscape.
Host: Thank you, Dr. Alex Carter, for sharing your expertise with us today! It’s clear that Bungie’s responsiveness and strategic updates are steps in the right direction for Destiny 2.
Dr. Carter: Thank you for having me! It’s been a pleasure discussing these developments.
