The new touch button in the iPhone 16 will mimic the shutter key found on professional cameras. This was reported by MacRumors, citing Chinese insider Instant Digital, Day.Az reports with reference to Gazeta.ru.
Instant Digital wrote on Weibo that the main function of the new button will be to activate photo or video shooting. Due to vibration feedback, it will simulate a two-stage pressing. A light press will allow the user to adjust focus, while a hard press will activate the shutter release.
“This is essentially the same function as most DSLRs and mirrorless cameras, where the shutter button has two stages: pressing it halfway locks focus or exposure, and pressing it all the way takes the photo,” writes MacRumors.
Instant Digital added that the addition of a shutter button will bring the iPhone closer to a camera phone format. The latter are currently experiencing a renaissance in the Android device market.
It is expected that the touch button will appear in all models of the iPhone 16 series. The release of new Apple smartphones is expected in the fall of 2024.
