The mystery of a crime that occurred more than two decades ago in Artemisa, Cuba, has begun to unravel after the discovery of a human skeleton during the renovation of a house, bringing to light a story marked by domestic violence and long-kept family secrets.
The story begins when a Cuban-American from Miami buys a property in Artemisa and, during renovation work, finds skeletal remains in the closet of the house. This discovery set in motion an investigation that has uncovered dark details of a violent past.
The remains were identified as those of Jorge Lopez, known locally as Pepin, who had disappeared 21 years ago. According to sources from Cubanos por el Mundo, the discovery occurred when the new owner felt a void under the closet floor, finally revealing the hidden skeleton.

The police, alerted by the owner, began an investigation that led to the capture and confession of the victim’s eldest son, Jorge López García, who was a prominent member of the Cuban Communist Party and a graduate in Physical Education. López García, who had also worked in Venezuela as a sports instructor, confessed to having committed the crime, alleging years of domestic abuse by the victim towards his wife and minor son.
According to a source close to the investigation who contacted Cubans around the worldthe motive for the murder was the abusive behavior of his father, who became violent towards his wife when he drank and abused his younger brother.
“These acts prompted López García to commit the murder, after which he dismembered the body and hid it inside his own home, in an attempt to conceal the crime,” said the source, who claims to know parts of the alleged killer’s confession.
