Deutsche Telekom is moving forward and taking on the challenge of eliminating dead spots on our highways. With its ambitious network expansion project, it is putting a lot of pressure on its competitors Vodafone and O2. The Bonn-based group announced that it would put the first of a total of 400 new radio masts into operation at the A1 Schellenbach rest area in Saarland as part of a cooperation with Autobahn GmbH.

The new radio masts are technically well equipped and operate in the 2G, 4G and 5G standards, covering various frequencies between 800 and 2100 megahertz. This means that users can benefit from faster and more reliable connections in the future. Especially in places where the highways run, Deutsche Telekom will position its locations much closer to the road, which will enable better connections and downloads of at least 200 megabits per second. Compared to other locations that only meet the government’s minimum requirement of 100 megabits per second, this is twice as fast. This is intended to drastically minimize the number of connection interruptions.

Competitors Vodafone and Telefónica Deutschland (O2) are also on the way to working with the federal company, but not yet as far as Deutsche Telekom. Vodafone has already agreed on a similar agreement with Autobahn GmbH, which is about to be signed. O2 is currently in “constructive discussions” with Autobahn GmbH and emphasizes that they are already actively expanding the highway network, even without official cooperation.

These developments promise that in the near future we will finally be able to say goodbye to annoying dead spots on our highways.
