“Devastating scene”: one dead and over 10 missing in an explosion on an island near France

One person was killed and 12 other people are listed as missing, after an explosion that happened tonight (between Friday and Saturday), and led to a fire on the British island of Jersey, which lies near the Normandy coast in France. A local police officer said that two injured from the incident were treated at the hospital, and confirmed the number of missing.

He added that the explosion occurred around four o’clock in the morning, and noted that the fire brigade arrived at the scene and worked to extinguish the fire. According to him, the three-story building collapsed completely, and the situation was described by him as a “devastating scene.”

In addition, he said that several nearby apartments were evacuated for security purposes, and the people living in them were moved to a temporary shelter. He also emphasized that actions are being taken to locate the 12 missing persons. The island of Jersey lies near the northwest coast of France, it is considered a “property of the British Crown”, but it is not part of the United Kingdom itself.
