Development of a neural network for the analysis of the Baikal ecosystem began in Russia

by time news

A neural network algorithm for monitoring the ecosystem of Lake Baikal will be developed in the Russian Federation. It will automatically analyze samples of Baikal water, recognize and classify the microorganisms contained in it.

The project will be carried out by specialists from the Research Institute of Biology of Irkutsk State University. They will be assisted by developers of artificial intelligence models for studying marine ecosystems MaritimeAI, as well as specialists from Yandex.Cloud and the Lake Baikal Foundation for the Support of Applied Environmental Research and Development.

The development will show how the Baikal ecosystem is developing and how climate change on the planet affects it. It will be carried out from the analysis of plankton to the search for new observation points.

Scientists have already provided over 1000 images of each plankton species. Images will be uploaded to Yandex.Cloud from the laboratory’s microscope, detection will be automatic. The prototype of the system will appear in the summer of 2021.
