Development of hill people in Thottapanayakanur Dinamalar

Usilambatti: Collector Aneesh Shekhar and the officials held a consultation regarding the Tamil Nadu government’s support for the livelihood of the hill people. The people of the hill tribe Paliyar live in Usilambatti Thottapanayakanur panchayat, Kurinchinagar. Sports competitions were held on the occasion of their temple festival. The Collector presided over the award ceremony.

RTO, Sankaralingam, Tahsildar Karupiah, District Monitoring Committee Member Malachami, Usilampatti Union Committee President Ranjani, Commissioners Pandi, Kannan, Panchayat President Balamurugamakaraja participated. The Collector gave prizes to the winners of the competitions and held a consultation on what is necessary for the livelihood of the hill dwellers. When the collector asked if all the boys were going to school, he said, ‘Some are not going to school as there is no hostel facility to send the boys.’

He said that he would consult with the education authorities and asked, ‘What other kind of assistance do you expect?’ The hill dwellers replied, ‘They have given land to grow herbs in other areas. Not provided here. It is not possible to buy food in the ration shops when going to the hill. They said that the bridges on the Chetiyapatti-Kurchinnagar road are broken. He ordered the panchayat union officials to arrange for allotment of land for herbal forest and to start the construction of bridges immediately. He said he will discuss with the officials about the ration shop and decide.
