Chairman of Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC) Professor Shibli Rubaiyat-ul-Islam said that the development of the mutual fund sector should be coordinated. The stronger the country’s mutual fund sector, the stronger the country’s capital market will be. The development of the mutual fund sector will make the capital market more stable and sustainable.

He said this at a workshop organized with asset management companies, trustees and custodians on the draft Mutual Fund Rules, 2024 at BSEC’s Multipurpose Hall on Tuesday (February 13).

According to the press release sent by BSEC, representatives including the chief executive officers of the mutual fund sector of Bangladesh participated in the workshop.

Chairman of BSEC said, we will work on the draft of Mutual Fund Rules, 2024 based on discussions with the stakeholders and their opinions. We want more investors to come to the mutual fund sector and benefit the country’s economy and capital market.

Commissioner of BSEC in the workshop. Mizanur Rahman said, if we want to see the country’s mutual fund sector dynamic and vibrant, it needs to be reorganized and restructured. The Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission has been working for a long time to develop the mutual fund sector in Bangladesh and create the necessary up-to-date laws.

In his welcome address, he highlighted the rationale behind the proposed rule reforms.

In the main part of the workshop, BSEC Executive Director Mohammad Rezaul Karim presented on the draft of Mutual Fund Rules, 2024. The workshop also gave a detailed presentation on the entire draft Mutual Fund Rules, 2024 and the changes made to the new Act including additions and subtractions.

At the end of the workshop, the opinions of the top officials and representatives of the institutions related to the mutual fund sector of Bangladesh were taken regarding the draft of ‘Mutual Fund Rules, 2024’. The BSEC informed that the first draft of the relevant law will be finalized soon in view of the opinions of the stakeholders of the mutual fund sector.
