Development of the strategy for the comprehensive approach to the socio-economic phenomenon of drugs and strengthening of mental health – Ministry of Public Health

The project “Development of the strategy to address the socioeconomic phenomenon of drugs and strengthening of mental health» aims to improve access, coverage and quality of mental health services in the National Health System, while contributing to reducing the demand related to the drug phenomenon. To demonstrate its technical feasibility, we have prepared a detailed description of the components, processes, methodologies and inputs that will be used in the execution of the project.

Our approach is divided into three main components:

1) Implement strategies to optimize the implementation of the Community Mental Health Model and reduce the demand for drugs.

2) Contribute to the implementation of the intensive outpatient service (SAI) in the first level of care of the MSP, aimed at people with problematic consumption of alcohol, tobacco and other drugs, as well as severe mental disorders.

3) Component of the Management Team.

The application of these components seeks to provide comprehensive health care to children, adolescents, youth, adults, and older adults of both sexes who face mental health problems and problematic use of alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs. We followed the inclusion criteria described in the Mental Health Care Model document. It is worth mentioning that this project is supported by Ministerial Agreement 00082-2023, which establishes it as an emblematic project within the Ministry of Health, under the Undersecretary of Health Surveillance, Prevention and Control.
