Development work at Tambaram railway station at a cost of Rs.20 crore

Chennai: The third railway station has been established at Tambaram and has been operational since 2018.

People from the surrounding area including Tambaram, Perungalathur, Vandalur, Guduvanchery are using the Tambaram railway station to a large extent.

As a result, the number of daily commuters has crossed 2.30 lakh.

Southern Railway is planning to gradually upgrade basic infrastructure works at Tambaram railway station.

Regarding this, Southern Railway officials said:

We are gradually increasing the number of trains from Tambaram railway station.

Due to this, the number of passengers is increasing. The number of passengers will increase further in the coming years.

Therefore, we are carrying out works such as improving the basic facilities for the passengers, expanding the platforms and constructing additional platforms.

It is planned to carry out these works at a cost of 20 crore rupees. We have requested to allocate funds for this in the central budget.

In this case, a new footbridge is going to be constructed from the Tambaram GST road through the railway station to East Tambaram.

We are going to install ‘escalators’ on all platforms to connect the flyovers.

Similarly, we are gradually carrying out the work of setting up electric fences, CCTV and cameras.
