According to a media report, iPhone company Apple is working on a tablet with a robotic arm. Further details are known.

In search of new sources of revenue, Apple is pushing ahead with the development of a tabletop robot, reports the usually well-informed Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman. According to Gurman, it will be a device similar to the iPad that is connected to a robotic arm, writes “people familiar with the matter.”

The slim robot arm moves a large screen and can tilt it up and down and rotate it 360 degrees. The device would be an alternative to smart home products such as the Echo Show 10 from Amazon and the discontinued portal of the Facebook group Meta.

The table robot is intended as a control center for smart home devices such as heating thermostats, lamps and music systems. The product, which Gurman says has the code name “J595,” can also be used for video calls.

The idea is to control the device primarily via the digital voice assistant Siri and with the help of Apple AI Apple Intelligence. For example, the device could respond to commands such as “Look at me” by repositioning the screen and thus focusing on the person speaking during a video call.

Gurman’s sources report that the development of the device was decided two years ago. However, departments at Apple have been skeptical about whether a tabletop robot would work on the market.

Now, however, Apple has decided to “prioritize the development of the device and is aiming for a market launch as early as 2026 or 2027,” Gurman writes. The target price at launch should be under $1,000.
