Giants Rookie DeVito Making NFL History

In just his first season as a rookie quarterback for the New York Giants, DeVito has been making waves in the NFL.

DeVito recently made history by becoming the first Giants rookie quarterback to win three consecutive starts since Phil Simms achieved the feat in 1979. This puts him in rare company, joining just two other undrafted rookie quarterbacks to win three starts in a season since the 1970 merger.

His impressive passer ratings in the last three games – 137.7, 103.9, and 113.9 – also set him apart. In fact, DeVito is the first undrafted rookie since 1967 to have a 100+ rating in three straight starts.

Notably, DeVito’s recent performances have drawn comparisons to another standout rookie quarterback, Houston’s C.J. Stroud, who is the favorite to be named the league’s Offensive Rookie of the Year.

DeVito’s journey to the starting role was anything but conventional. Despite impressing coaches during OTAs, training camp, and the preseason, he was initially released as the third quarterback behind Daniel Jones and Tyrod Taylor. However, injuries to both Jones and Taylor eventually led to DeVito making his NFL debut and earning the starting role.

His strong play recently earned him the recognition of Offensive Player of the Week, marking the Giants’ first player of the week honoree this season and the first offensive player to receive the honor since 2022. It was the 37th time a Giants offensive player has won this award.

DeVito and the Giants will look to continue their success as they prepare to face off against the Saints in New Orleans.

In other Giants news, tight end Darren Waller remains on injured reserve with a hamstring injury but is hopeful for a return soon.
