Devotees who saw the Capricorn torch-chanting slogan displayed in Sabarimala

Special arrangements were made for the devotees to see the Capricorn torch from 8 places including Sannidanam and Pampa.

At the Sabarimala Iyappan Temple, the Capricorn Lantern Puja was held on the 30th of last month to mark the Capricorn Lantern Puja. The culmination of the festival, the Capricorn Torch Darshan took place today.

The Capricorn Lantern Festival is celebrated on the first day of the month at the famous Iyappan Temple. On the day of Capricorn Sankaranti, after sunset, a light appears and disappears at Ponnambala Matt. Devotees who see this light from Sabarimala believe that Iyappane appears in the form of a torch.

The procession left the Pandalam Valiya Koikkal Shasta temple yesterday afternoon with 3 boxes containing gold ornaments to be worn for Iyengar during the Capricorn Lantern Puja. Ayyappa devotees selected on behalf of the Travancore temple carried the headgear.

Jewelery boxes were brought to Sabarimala Sannidanam at 6.20 pm today to chant the slogans of the devotees. There the Thiruvaparana boxes were given a special welcome on behalf of the Travancore Temple.

After that, Tantri and Melchanti received the Thiruvaparanas which were carried through the eighteenth step. The ornaments were then adorned for Iyengar. Deepavali followed. Capricorn torch was displayed at Ponnambalam after the ornamental Deeparadhana at 6.30 pm. Devotees visited the Capricorn torch three times in a row. Then the Swami raised the slogan of Sarana Ayyappa and became ecstatic with devotion.
