National coach Hansi Flick can plan for the international match against Ukraine with all players with the exception of attacker Timo Werner as well as Ilkay Gündogan and Robin Gosens.

Werner from Leipzig was absent from the final training session in Frankfurt am Main on Sunday.

The 27-year-old will also be out on Monday (6 p.m. / ZDF) in Bremen due to an ankle injury. Werner had expressed the hope that he might be fit for the second test match next Friday in Warsaw against Poland.

After the Champions League triumph with Manchester City on Saturday in Istanbul, Gündogan, like Inter Milan’s final loser Gosens, will only join the DFB team after the 1000th international match on Tuesday or Wednesday. Both should then be available to Flick against Poland and at the end of the season on June 20 in Gelsenkirchen against Colombia.

Applause for birthday children

Before the start of the training session on Sunday morning on the Frankfurt DFB campus, there was applause for two birthday children during a short speech by Flick on the pitch. National player Kai Havertz is 24 years old, physiotherapist Wolfgang Bunz 66. Bunz has been part of the national team’s medical team since 1998. (dpa)
