Hermann Selbherr was the face of the DFB Cup draw for many years, but now the long-time cup match director has died at the age of 90. The German Football Association announced this on Thursday.
The Wangen-born player had been a member of the DFB match committee since 1986 and was in charge of the draws for the DFB Cup rounds from 1992 to 2007, which were broadcast on television. In addition to his work on the games committee, Selbherr was also deputy chairman of his local Württemberg Football Association (wfv) from 1991 to 2003.
In addition, as the DFB’s Africa representative, he worked for international understanding and accompanied the Togo national team throughout the tournament at the 2006 World Cup in Germany, which had moved into its team quarters in his hometown of Wangen im Allgäu for their first World Cup participation. Selbherr also attended more than 100 international meetings as a FIFA and UEFA delegate. The official was also headmaster of the Sophie Scholl School in Leutkirch from 1987 to 1997.
Selbherr was honored with numerous awards throughout his career.
