Dhe Bundesliga needs money. All 36 clubs in the first and second class agree on that. In this respect, this Monday is an exciting day. The German Football League (DFL) will receive offers from six investors. The participation of a private equity company in the foreign marketing of German professional football has been discussed in the past few weeks and months, sometimes as fiercely as if it were about silverware, a fateful decision.
The figures circulated may give the impression that a great deal is at stake: after all, the two leagues want to take a little more than two billion euros for the rental of the share of rights to foreign marketing. The term, between twenty and thirty years, and the share released, 12.5 percent, put the meaning into perspective: it’s about an eighth, not the soul of the league.
