CHENNAI: Cricketer Dhoni has filed a contempt case in the Chennai High Court against the IPS officer who filed a counter-petition against the court order.

IPS officer Sampath Kumar, who inquired about gambling in the last 2013 IPL cricket match, reported that ‘Dhoni, the former captain of the Indian cricket team, was involved in gambling’.

In this regard, Dhoni filed a case in the High Court in 2014 seeking damages of Rs 100 crore, claiming that his name had been tarnished by a debate program conducted by a private television.

In that case, the private television, its editor and police officer Sampath Kumar were included as counter-petitioners.

During the hearing, IPS officer Sampath Kumar filed a reply.

In this case, the contempt of court petition filed by Dhoni against IPS officer Sampathkumar:

In the reply petition filed by Sampathkumar, the comments are contained in the Supreme Court and High Court orders.

He should be booked under the Contempt of Court Act as this is contempt of court and undermines public confidence in the judiciary.

I have filed this case with the permission of the Advocate General of Tamil Nadu Government. It says so.

The contempt case will come up for hearing next week in a bench comprising Justice PN Prakash and Justice Deekaraman.
