Chennai,

The 16th IPL will feature 10 teams. The 20-over cricket tournament will start in April next year and will be held for two and a half months. The mini-auction of players for this will be held next month (December) on 23rd in Kochi. The IPL asked each team to submit the list of retained and released players by November 15 (yesterday). The Executive Council had imposed a penalty.

According to the submitted list which was published yesterday Kolkata Knight Knights released 16 players and Mumbai Indians released 13 players.

Wayne Bravo, Robin Uthappa, Adam Milne, Hari Nishant, Chris Jordan, Bhagat Verma, KM Asif, N. Jagatheesan have been dropped from the Chennai Super Kings team. In this, Uthappa has retired from cricket. The team management did not want to retain 39-year-old all-rounder Wayne Bravo (Rs 4.4 crore) as his bowling and batting were not what they used to be. This ends Bravo’s 11-year association with the Chennai team.

In this situation, Dhoni will continue as the captain of the Chennai team, said KS Viswanathan, the chief executive officer of the Chennai team.

Chennai Super Kings CEO KS Viswanathan says it was a difficult decision to release the players. Their contribution to the Chennai team will always be remembered. If we get the chance to take any of them back in the auction we will do it.

2023 IPL Dhoni will lead the Chennai team in the tournament. He will be at his best. The team will also perform well’, he said.
