Mahendra Singh Dhoni took a record 7 catches in an innings in the Duleep Trophy in the 2004-2005 season. After 20 years, his record was broken by Dhruv Jurel. The 22-year-old wicket-keeper batsman touched Dhoni’s record while playing for India ‘A’ against India ‘B’ in the Duleep Trophy on Sunday (September 08).

In this match ‘A’ team bowled out ‘B’ team for just 184 runs in the second innings. Jurel took 7 catches behind the wicket. He caught Yasswi Jaiswal, Avimanu Iswaran, Mushir Khan, Sarfraz Khan, Nitish Reddy, Sai Kishori and Navdeep Saini. They got the target of 275 runs by bowling out the ‘B’ team for 184 runs.

Despite playing a great role behind the wicket, Jurel could not benefit with the bat. He was dismissed for just 2 runs off 16 balls in the first innings. And Golden Duck hit in the second innings.

Before Dhoni, the record of dismissing 7 men behind the wicket was held by Sunil Benjamin. He also took 6 catches for Central Zone against North Zone in the final of the Duleep Trophy in 1973 as well as a stamping.
