An emotional video, the involvement of important influencers and a social challenge are the tools through which to talk about this pathology and to break down the stigma that affects the lives of the people who are affected by it.


“Raising public awareness of the challenges that people with type 1 diabetes face every day and breaking down prejudices about this condition is the goal we set ourselves with the Blue Balloon campaign, promoted in collaboration with patient associations”, he declares. Type 1 diabetes leads to absolute insulin deficiency and typically occurs in childhood or adolescence, but can also occur in adults. In Italy it occurs every year in 8.1 children out of 100,000 and is a chronic condition from which it does not heal but can be controlled by respecting insulin therapy, following a healthy diet and engaging in physical activity. According to the World Health Organization, 422 million people in the world live with diabetes and about 5% of the Italian population. Type 1 diabetes affects about 300,000 Italians, that is 0.5% of the population.
