Dialysis unit of the Ambato Teaching Hospital is improved – Ministry of Public Health

This Friday, March 3, 2023, among the activities carried out by the Minister of Public Health, José Ruales, included a visit to the renovated Hemodialysis Unit of the General Teaching Hospital of Ambato, Tungurahua province.
The renewal of technological equipment at the dialysis center corresponds to the plan to improve comprehensive care in the country’s hospitals. Ruales, reported the existence of 42 renal centers that guarantee permanent care and avoid referral for this service.
The Unit was opened in March 2020, as a response during the pandemic to guarantee care for patients with stage 5D chronic renal failure and patients with acute renal failure. Until December 2022, 52 patients were registered in permanent care in this health home in the Sierra Centro.
It was reported that the team that makes up the Unit is made up of five Nephrology specialists, which facilitates care in four permanent care shifts. For outpatient cases, three shifts were established from Monday to Saturday, from 5:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.; from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and from 3:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Another schedule option is intended for hospitalized patients from 8:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m.
