Brussels, Belgium): India’s star athlete Neeraj Chopra missed out on winning the javelin throw event title at the 2024 Diamond League Final. Neeraj had to settle for second place in the final match. Neeraj, who is constantly struggling with injury, made his best throw in the third round. His throw was 87.86 meters. For the second consecutive year, Neeraj finished second in the Diamond League Final. In 2022, he won the title of Diamond League Final.
Neeraj missed by one centimeter
Neeraj Chopra could not win the Diamond League 2024 final by just one centimeter. Grenada’s Anderson Peters won the title with a best throw of 87.87 meters. He made this throw in his very first round. Neeraj threw more than 85 meters 3 times in 6 attempts but could not get ahead of Peters. In the final round, Neeraj’s throw was 86.46 meters while Peters threw 87.86 meters. Germany’s Weber finished third with a best throw of 85.97 meters.
Anderson wins first Diamond League title
26-year-old Anderson Peters has won the Diamond League final for the first time. He won the bronze medal at the Paris Olympics last month. Neeraj Chopra got the silver there. Peters has won the World Championship twice. He won the title in 2019 and 2022. Apart from this, he has a silver and a bronze medal in the Commonwealth Games. His career best throw is 93.07 meters.
Neeraj could not make the best throw of the season
Neeraj Chopra has not been able to throw 90 meters in his career so far. The 26-year-old Indian athlete made the best throw of the season last month. He threw 89.49 meters in the Lausanne Diamond League. This was the second best throw of his career. However, Neeraj could not even come close to his season best throw in the final.
