DIAN intensifies supervision of electronic billing

The DIAN deployed a day of visits in more than 40 thousand commercial establishments nationwide, with the aim of ensuring that businesses are complying with the obligation to issue electronic invoices in its sales transactions of goods and services.

Cecilia Rico Torres, Director of Tax Management at the DIAN, explained that the event seeks to guide and verify that all those required to invoice do so correctly, thus ensuring compliance with tax regulations.These visits are essential to confirm that merchants are delivering the electronic invoice corresponding to each purchase made by consumers.“, he said.

More than 1,500 officials in Bogotá covering 26 shopping centres and 12 of the 18 districts of the capital. In other cities such as Medellín, Cali, Barranquilla and Bucaramanga, hundreds of officials have also been mobilised to carry out these inspections.

The DIAN has announced that these sessions will continue for the rest of the year, in order to educate and ensure that all establishments comply with the obligation to issue electronic invoices.

Benefits for buyers

Jairo Orlando Villabona, Director General of the DIAN, reminded consumers of the importance of always requesting an electronic invoiceHe explained that this practice not only ensures transparency in transactions, but also offers a direct benefit: a 1% deduction in income tax for those who pay for their purchases electronically and receive an electronic invoice.This means that by requesting the electronic invoice, buyers can reduce their tax burden in the next income tax return.“Villabona said.

As of August 16, 2024, more than 1.2 million taxpayers are authorized to issue electronic invoicingaccording to data from the DIAN. The entity also announced that on September 1 it will begin the mandatory implementation of electronic billing for the sale of airline tickets and for gambling documents.

Verification of deductions in the income tax return

In a call to those who must file their income tax returns before October 24, the DIAN urged taxpayers to verify that the deductions requested in their tax return correspond to the information registered in the entity’s databases.

According to Cecilia Rico Torres, although taxpayers have requested more than $145 billion in deductions related to purchases with electronic invoices, many of these are not validated by the DIAN.
