San Salvador. Deputies of Nuevas Ideas, PDC, PCN GANA and the independents, the Legislative Assembly approved the initiative to exempt the payment of duties and taxes for the introduction of new goods for Salvadoran travelers from abroad.

This transitional provision will be in force from December 1 of this year until January 31, 2024 and applies to the introduction of goods whose amount does not exceed $3,000.

The temporary proposal aims to expand the tax exemption benefit contemplated in the Law on Luggage of Travelers Coming from Abroad.

Deputy Walter Alemán said that this is an initiative to continue dignifying the diaspora. “We hope that during this Christmas season many compatriots can come to celebrate with their families,” he said.

While Ana Figueroa considered that the new Assembly is settling historical debts with the diaspora. “We continue to legislate for all compatriots, after previous governments left them invisible,” she highlighted.
