This was categorically denied by the central government.

The Embassy of India in Colombo posted a post on Twitter about this. The post said, “The media has reported that India helped Gotabaya Rajapakse to leave Sri Lanka and travel. The Indian Embassy categorically denies this. It is baseless and based on speculation.”

It has also been said that “the people of Sri Lanka are trying to realize their expectations of prosperity and progress through democratic methods, values, democratic institutions and constitutional structures. We reiterate that India will continue to support this.”
