Orli Meman, the person in charge of public acceptability at the Kaana 11 Public Broadcasting Corporation, responded to appeals against the lawyer and panelist Amel Orabi in the program ‘Mah Tsad Hesii’ calling for his dismissal and to stop his appearances on the program in question.

Maman wrote: “I would like to be precise and point out that Mr. Orabi is not an employee of the corporation and does not receive a salary from it. He serves as an opinion columnist once every two to three weeks in a program produced by an external party. I assume that for his appearance he receives a symbolic amount of writers’ fees. Because of this, Oravi’s position towards the code of ethics is different and less compared to someone who is considered a corporate employee or someone who works for a salary in an external production company.”

She further added: “And still, I believe that there is weight to the series of complaints regarding Arab statements on social networks and the fact of harming the public’s feelings, which should be taken into account. Thus, in light of the considerable investment of the corporation and its managers in discussions about this or that statement time and time again – it could be expected that Mr. Orabi will respect the stage given to him by the broadcasting corporation and the broad protection given to him by the right to freedom of expression, and will show some restraint in his statements. Since there is currently no internal ethics committee, and as much as you are interested in such a body, you are invited to the ethics committee of the corporation’s council by email.”

Shai Glick, CEO of Betselmo, said: “I welcome the unequivocal position of the Commissioner Mrs. Orli Meman, who unequivocally states that Amal Orbi crossed the red line. Just this week we saw that Israel Fry was suspended for much less tweets in a private media organization, it is clear that the corporation must immediately remove Amal Arabi. I am sure that the ethics committee will accept our requests and immediately kick Amal Arabi from the program.
