An official complaint was filed last month against Interior Minister Ayelet Shaked to Attorney General Gali Bahar Rabbi Miara by a judge Michal Agmon-Gonen. According to a report in “Globes”, the judge claimed that Shaked exerted improper pressure on her to disrupt legal proceedings.

Judge Agmon-Gonen has recently claimed that she has been under undue pressure to change her decisions, and according to the complaint she filed with the ombudsman, the person who is pressuring her is Minister Shaked.

Gonen claimed in the complaint that Shaked asked their mutual friend to talk to the judge and recommend that she change her rulings regarding Ukrainian citizens entering Israel, and regarding the case of a specific Ukrainian whom the Interior Ministry rejected her request to enter Israel.

The complaint was filed in the opinion of Supreme Court President Esther Hayut and the director of the courts, Dr. Yigal Marzel, but the attorney general decided to close it at a record speed of 48 hours, when she clarified that there was nothing criminal in the allegation that justified her intervention.

Interior Minister Ayelet Shaked’s office responded: “Let us be clear, Minister Shaked never asked Judge Agmon Gonen, directly or indirectly, and did not ask anyone to speak to her. However, Justice Agmon Gonen asked Minister Shaked to go to the Supreme Court and press the chairman. The Efi Naveh Bar Association will work to appoint her, contrary to the procedures of the Supreme Court.

“In fact, Minister Shaked did express her displeasure with the decisions of Judge Agmon-Gonen, who repeatedly chose to ignore the wording of the law, the rules of procedure and even give guidelines with broad meanings and try to produce norms that contradict the law, even though they go far beyond her authority.” Of immigrants with criminal backgrounds who have already been expelled from Israel, and are now trying to re-enter its gates. “

On behalf of Judge Michal Agmon-Gonen, it was stated in response: “The candidates for the Supreme Court met with the Minister of Justice in her office with the approval of the President of the Supreme Court, and in accordance with the agreement between the President and the Minister.”
