Through social networks, the Secretariat of Administration and Finance of Mexico City warned about a new scam method via text message to steal personal information.

The modality consists of sending a message to the victim to inform the collection of an alleged finewhich is accompanied by a fraudulent link that redirects to an apocryphal site.

“CDMX Government: You have 24 hours left to pay your fine before a surcharge is charged, check your fine through,” reads one of the messages along with a fraudulent link.

Faced with this new method of fraud, the Local Finance Secretariat recommended that citizens ignore the message and report it as spam.

“If you receive an SMS notifying you of a fine from the Mexico City Government, do not open it! This message is FALSE and does not belong to the Ministry of Administration and Finance. Please ignore this message and report it as “spam” to protect your personal information,” the agency reported.
