RIO DE JANEIRO (Reuters) – The average price of S10 diesel, the most sold type in Brazil, rose 12% at gas stations in the country between September 1st and 13th, to 6.31 reais per liter, the highest value since March, pointed out this Thursday the Ticket Log Price Index (IPTL).

Regular diesel, in turn, rose 11.86% in the period and was sold at 6.13 reais, also the highest average price since March, according to the survey, carried out based on supplies carried out at 21 thousand accredited gas stations. Ticket Log.

The movement comes after Petrobras, the country’s main fuel producer, announced a 25.8% increase in the prices of diesel sold to distributors from August 16, following a recent spike in oil and its derivatives on the international market. .

“Since the beginning of August, after the last readjustment at the refineries, the price of diesel has been becoming more expensive for Brazilians,” said Douglas Pina, general director of Mobility at Edenred Brasil, in a statement.

He highlighted that the average value per liter, which in July closed at 5.02 reais for the common type and 5.12 reais for the S-10, is now above 6 reais at the beginning of September, the highest value recorded since March for both.

“New upward reflexes should be identified in the coming months with the reinstatement of part of the PIS/Cofins rate”, added Pina.

The transfer of adjustments from Petrobras to end consumers at gas stations is not immediate and depends on a series of issues, such as biofuel mix, taxes and distribution and resale margins.

The market is also influenced by other agents, as it has other private refineries and imports around 25% of diesel oil and 15% of gasoline, which also interferes with the pricing of costs from distributors to service stations.
