The Kerala State Transport Corporation operates buses not only throughout the state but also to neighboring states. The average daily revenue of the transport corporation is Rs.6.5 crore. Out of which diesel cost is Rs.3.5 crore. Although the Transport Corporation has provided this to the oil companies, the toll arrears are increasing day by day.

At present, the arrears owed by the Kerala State Transport Corporation to the oil companies have risen to Rs.135 crores. As a result, oil companies have stopped supplying diesel.

So the transport corporation is currently procuring diesel on a daily basis. Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) has refused to supply the diesel without settling the outstanding Rs 123 crore and the previous due of Rs 139 crore including interest. Due to this the Kerala State Transport Corporation has reduced its services.

Due to shortage of diesel in the Kerala State Transport Corporation, long distance services and 50 per cent bus services have been suspended. Due to this, travelers have suffered in many parts of the state.

Meanwhile, the state transport corporation informed that the bus service has been stopped due to heavy rain.
