The tour is complicated for Dieudonné. The town hall of Lyon has signed an order prohibiting the controversial comedian from performing in the city, the community and the Rhône prefecture announced in a press release on Thursday.

The authorities justified the measure by a need to “guarantee respect for public order”. The Lyon town hall recalled that the comedian was the subject of “numerous criminal convictions for having held negationist speeches, inciting racial hatred or advocating terrorism”.

The exact place where the performance was to be held, however, was kept secret, and the appointment was supposed to be communicated to people who bought a ticket, a few hours before its start.

Dates canceled in Toulouse, Paris and Montpellier

The prefect of the Rhône “invites the mayors of the other municipalities of the department to take the same measures if the place of the representation were to change”. CRIF Auvergne – Rhône-Alpes Rhône-Alpes, which represents Jewish institutions in the region, expressed its “deep concern about the next performances” of Dieudonné M’Bala M’Bala on Tuesday evening, one scheduled for Saturday, and another in December.

The town hall of Toulouse had taken a similar decision on Wednesday. The comedian’s show, entitled “Sous bracelet”, has already been banned from representation in other cities, such as Montpellier and Paris. For the time being, other dates are still planned, notably in Grenoble and Auxerre.
